Raila Reveals Details of New National Anti-Corruption Conference

Naitonal Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga on Friday revealed new anti-corruption measures they had agreed on with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking in Nyamira County during the funeral of George Ndemo Nyagarama, son to Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama, Raila disclosed that a three-day national anti-corruption conference would be held in Nairobi in August.

He noted that the conference was among recommendations made by the 14-member Building Bridges taskforce.

Raila explained that the conference would provide a platform for citizens to share their opinions on how to effectively combat corruption in Kenya.

"People will speak. We shall listen and action will be taken," he stated.

The opposition chief added that the views would help in fomulating resolutions that would be implemented in a bid to eradicate graft.

"I met with the President, we agreed that this problem must be combated and culprits made to account for their sins," he stated.

Among those expected to attend the conference are cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, MPs, senators, the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) hierarchy and governors, among other State and public officers.

Raila also put on notice corrupt leaders who sought cover from their communities when implicated in cases, declaring that they would no longer find refuge.

"We can't be running to our communities whenever we are told to account for the wealth we acquired illegally and start saying that we are being targeted," he asserted.

His sentiments were echoed by Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, Siaya Senator James Orengo and ODM Chair John Mbadi among other leaders.
