Mukhisa Kituyi Twitter Hacked, Damaging Message Posted

On July 24, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Secretary General Mukhisa Kituyi’s twitter account was hacked and a damaging message posted.

The message posted condemned American policy on Iran which outlines US administration's new strategy vis-a-vis Iran.

Mukhisa was forced to act quickly and disown the tweet explaining that someone had gained illegal access to his account.

“I assure all that the nonsensical tweet with attendant juvenile emojis is disowned,” he stated.

The former Minister also added that plans were underway to restore the integrity of his account.

He indicated this while attending the opening panel of the African Union e-commerce conference on July 23, when the continent's standing in the digital economy was discussed.

The trade expert joined UNCTAD in 2013, having served as chief executive of the Kenya Institute of Governance before the appointment.

His tenure as UNCTAD secretary general ends in August 31, 2021.
