Dr Mukhisa Kituyi Backs Peter Kenneth Against Sonko

United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) secretary general Dr Mukhisa Kituyi on Wednesday maintained that Governor Mike Sonko was not the right candidate to lead Nairobi County and rather favoured if city dwellers would have voted Peter Kenneth in his place.

Speaking during an interview, the UNCTAD boss blamed Kenyans’ “political irrationality” for the mess in Nairobi.

Dr Kituyi stated: “I thought Peter Kenneth was very good to be governor for Nairobi and nothing has happened since the election period that has proven me wrong.”

He added: “You listen to Nairobi people you wouldn’t believe these are the people who voted for Sonko. Where were they during the elections? They were in polling booths.”

The UNCTAD secretary general further questioned Nairobians’ political choices during the August 8, 2017 polls.

“Did we hate Kidero because he was a Luo or because he was a bad governor? Have we found solutions to answer Kidero’s weakness?” Dr Kituyi questioned.

Nairobians have stated that they are getting impatient with littered and potholed roads in the capital city.

City Hall stated that it had acquired two rapid road patching machines worth Ksh100 million last year to help fix the capital’s bad roads.

The drainage system and lack of reliable and safe water supply in Nairobi have been listed among the major concerns residents have with several estates in the city grappling with water rationing for a year now.

However, governor Sonko has since apologised for the mess in Nairobi and blamed his predecessor Evans Kidero for failing to fix some of the problems during his tenure.
