Governor Obado Hits Out at ODM for Handing Ayacko Direct Ticket

Migori Governor Okoth Obado on Friday hit out at his party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), for handing his former Gubernatorial rival Ochillo Ayacko a direct ticket to contest the Migori Senatorial by-election.

Speaking following the dismissal of a petition filed against his election by Ayacko, Obado accused the party of imposing its choices on the people.

He further warned that the move announced by ODM officials would have an impact on the 2022 elections as a few people would seek to control all the electoral positions.

“We will not allow two or three people to sit in Nairobi and dictate where Migori residents should go as if we are blind.

"We will not accept the decision. It will affect the outcome of the 2022 election as a few people will decide who should be voted for, from MCA to all other seats," he stated.

Obado further told voters not to be swayed by the party decision, asserting that they should tell anyone who expects them to vote for him because of an endorsement 'from above' to also find voters from above.

With the deceased former Senator, Ben Okello, having hailed from Rongo constituency, Obado vowed to ensure that his successor came from the same area.

Ayacko, the obvious frontrunner in the race, comes from Awendo constituency.

Obado further claimed that Ayacko had not adhered to a truce brokered between him and Ayacko by ODM leader Raila Odinga as he failed to withdraw the petition.

"I am from the court so I ask myself 'what did he pull out'?" he posed.
