Governor Lee Kinyanjui, Senator Susan Kihika Fight Over School Buses

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui and Senator Susan Kihika were over the weekend engaged in a bitter fight over two school buses purchased with county funds.

Senator Kihika accused the governor of misplaced priorities claiming that the county had more urgent needs than school buses.

"The buses are not a priority in a county that has a myriad challenges residents wanted to be addressed when they elected us. The governor erred," she stated.

The senator went on to point out that the governor and his cabinet had given focus to matters that fall under the national government.

The governor, on his part, defended the move stating that the buses were purchased for those schools that occasionally need a bus and have none of their own.

"There are schools that want to buy buses yet they do not have laboratories, classrooms or libraries.

"Those schools can now use the county courtesy buses to attend sports, festivals or any other events and focus on establishing these important facilities," the governor stated.

Reports suggest that there may be frosty political associations between the two following the 2017 General Election where Kihika allegedly demanded a say in county appointments but was denied the chance.

The Solai dam tragedy is also said to have widened the political rift between the two as Kihika spearheaded a Senate team to probe the matter while Kinyanjui dismissed her efforts.

"It passes as a classic example of a wasted opportunity to unlock a very serious tragedy. The Senate team had little time to listen to those invited to shed light on the matter. One is tempted to conclude the committee had a set mind from the onset," he stated.
