Politicians Lead Residents in Blocking Major Highway

Matuu residents on Monday blocked the Nairobi-Garissa highway in protests that were led by their local Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

The residents held up placards that demanded the immediate removal of Matuu Police Station OCS over what they claimed to corruption in his dealings.

Some of the placards went as far as to label the OCS, identified as James Nyakangi, to be a womaniser.

Here are some of the photos from the protests.

Boda boda riders joined in the protests causing a major traffic snarl up along the busy highway.

Media reports indicate that OCS Nyakangi had previously been removed from the police station and posted elsewhere. He was, however, recently posted to head the station again.

The protesters told journalists that his previous administration had been dissatisfactory and as such his return would mean a step back into the tyrannical era.

The protests also involved local traders from the Matuu market centre who closed down their businesses to participate in the protests.

Here are more photos shared on the protests.
