Evans Kidero to Appear in Court on Thursday - EACC

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was on Wednesday evening arrested over corruption.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) revealed the circumstances that led to the arrest of the former county head.

In a series of tweets, the commission stated that Dr Kidero and his co-accused would be presented to the court on Thursday for several offences.

"EACC has been conducting investigations into allegations of abuse of office, money laundering, bribery, conflict of interest and failure to protect public property by senior Government officials," EACC conveyed.

With a reasonable amount of evidence, the EACC submitted a report to the DPP on the results of the investigations.

"Upon review, the DPP has concurred with EACC that there is sufficient evidence to charge the eleven-accused with several offenses of corruption and economic crimes," the commission added.

An earlier statement from the ODPP noted that the public prosecutor had received the file and was satisfied by the report to pursue the case.

"The Commission forwarded the investigations file and documentary exhibits vide a letter dated July 13, 2018, together with a report under section 35 of the Anti-corruption & Economic Crimes Act (ACECA).

"The DPP has independently reviewed the file and material submitted to him and is satisfied that the persons named are criminally culpable jointly and severally," noted the ODPP in a statement.

Kidero will be charged alongside Lilian Wanjiru (former county secretary), Jimmy Mutuku (Former CFO), Gregory Mwakanongo (former Finance executive) and Stephen Ogago (Former H/O County Treasury), Luke Mugo (Ag Chief Officer Finance), Maurice Ochieng (Ag Head of County Treasury), John Githua and Grace Njeri of Lodwar Wholesalers Ltd and Ngurumani Traders Ltd and the two companies.
