7 Feared Dead as Boat Capsizes in Jovu, Mombasa

A boat capsize tragedy in Jomvu, Mombasa on Monday has raised fears of a significant death toll in the sea.

Confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross noted: " A boat with unknown number of people on board has been reported to have capsized at Jomvu Sub County in Mombasa."

According to Red Cross, search and rescue efforts were underway at the scene of the incident.

Other sources, however, put the figure of those who likely perished in the tragic incident at seven people.

Although not common, boat accidents occasionally happen both at the Coast and in Lake Victoria leading to loss of lives given that most of the sailors lack life-jackets.

However, most of the accidents happen at night and involve fishermen in fishing expeditions.
