Services Halted at GPO Huduma Centre After Electricity is Cut Off

Kenya Power on Tuesday afternoon disconnected electricity at Huduma Centre GPO in Nairobi over unpaid bills.

Government services administered to citizens were brought to a standstill after the blackout within the building.

It was noted that the building has a record of unpaid bills that led to the action by the power company.

CEO Dennis Mutuku was unavailable for comment over the incident.

This comes seven days after systems went down at the same facility forcing some of the processes to be done manually.

This is the second time the centre has suffered from such a blackout.

In 2017, both the Huduma Centre and the General Post Office (GPO) had their electricity temporarily cut due to reasons of unpaid bills.

An insider at that time revealed that the Posta refused to pay the bill because Huduma Centre never contributed to pay for the electricity and yet continued enjoying the services.

“Since 2013, they have not been paying any bill yet they make money for the services they offer here,” said the insider.

Failure of the Centre to offset the bill has drawn questions from citizens as to how this happens yet it is owned by the government.
