Lawyer Ahmednasir's Abdullahi Worry Over DCJ Philomena Mwilu's Arrest

City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi expressed concern over the arrest of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.

In a post on his official Twitter account, Ahmednasir explained that the Judicial Service Commission was hand tied as it could not undertake its mandate minus Mwilu.

"With the arrest of the deputy chief justice and a JSC member, and now with only 5 out of 11 members, JSC the most important organ in the Kenyan judiciary is Constitutionally in a state of paralysis and can't sit or deliberate from today for lack of quorum," the vocal lawyer stated.

Earlier on when the arrest of DCJ Mwilu was announced, the lawyer stated that he was keenly following the events from the Serengeti.

Mwilu was arrested at Supreme Court in Nairobi over alleged corruption on Tuesday and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for questioning.

Moments after the arrest, Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji called an urgent press conference on the matter where he explained the charges she faced.

The Deputy Chief Justice's arrest followed a series of meetings by the Judicial Service Commission, the judiciary employer, for the better part of the morning.

Justice Mwilu had also attended the meetings and it was not clear if she was being grilled by her employer.

After being arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday evening, Mwilu was released on a Ksh5 million bond after being charged over abuse of office claims.

The embattled Deputy Chief Justice was charged with various counts among them abuse of office and forgery.
