Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu's Legal Team Raises Fear Over Their Security

Nelson Havi, one of the 32 top lawyers representing Deputy Chief Justice (DCJ) Philomena Mbete Mwilu has raised fears over the team's security.

Through his Twitter handle, the lawyer raised concern after photos surfaced showing the battery of lawyers inside an allegedly restricted premise within Milimani High Court.

The post by a tweep using the handle @RoadAlertsKE showed some of DCJ Mwilu's lawyers including Senator James Orengo (Siaya), Senior Counsel John Khaminwa, Nelson Havi and Julie Soweto seated in what appears to be a deliberations meeting.

"This is the Milimani High Court Advocates’ Lounge. I believe, like any other public office, it has State installed intelligence surveillance cameras and bugs," Havi noted.

However, the lawyer raised concern on how the photos found their way from the court lounge to the hands of a private citizen.

"You must be very high up in the intelligence rank to get access to photographs from those cameras. We are not gullible," he quipped.

Although some netizens differed with the lawyer indicating that the photos could easily have been taken using a phone, the lawyer was adamant that they were from spy cameras by government agencies.

The Deputy CJ assembled the battery of some of Kenya’s top advocates to represent her over the charges she is facing in court.

Other lawyers in her defence team include Senators Mutula Kilonzo Junior (Makueni), Okong’o Omogeni (Nyamira) and MPs Anthony Oluoch (Mathare), Peter Kaluma (Homa Bay), and Millie Odhiambo (Suba North).

DCJ Mwilu was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and taken to the Milimani Law Courts where she was released on a Ksh 5million bond.

On Wednesday Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka also joined the defence team terming the case "an attack to the Judiciary" since the person charged is second in command in the entire judicial system.
