Boniface Mwangi Pokes Holes Into David Mwai's Police Cell Suicide

Activist Boniface Mwangi poked holes into the reported suicide of David Mwai, a top suspect in an attempted murder case facing Garissa Governor Ali Korane.

Mwai is said to have committed suicide at Parklands Police Station on Thursday, hours after media reports emerged indicating that a suspect in custody had agreed to give authorities crucial information on the case.

Mwangi explained that, having been in police custody in the past, he was convinced that Mwai was actually murdered in the cell.

"David Mwai was likely murdered inside a police cell. As someone who has been arrested enough times, you’re never alone in a cell.

"Belt, shoe straps are confiscated and if someone brings you food, they must taste it. So @DCI_Kenya this must be investigated," he tweeted.

He further stated that he had gotten in touch with a police officer who told him that Mwai had indeed been murdered, promising to disclose further information.

In addition, Mwangi appealed to Mwai's family to contact him seeking justice, explaining that he believed Mwai was murdered to protect Governor Korane.

"We must get him justice. I am not defending a cold blood killer but it is wrong to be murdered inside a police cell.

"We live in a country with laws. David’s murder is to help a bigger murderer get away, the governor," he wrote.

Mwai had been arrested alongside several others in connection with the shooting of former Garissa Finance CEC Idriss Mukhtar in Kileleshwa.

Footage captured on CCTV cameras showed a lone gunman dressed in black firing three times at Mukhtar through the drivers window as Mukhtar left a restaurant after 8 pm prayers at Kileleshwa mosque.

Mukhtar was rushed to Nairobi Hospital and has been on life support since.
