The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has shifted the way on graft to his office after arresting a top official implicated in Ksh 7.9 million oil theft.
Senior Principal Administrative Officer William Ashael Osoro, attached to Haji's office was arrested on Friday morning.
According to an official statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, he misappropriated Ksh 7.9 million meant for fuel consumption through the use of unauthorized fuel card.
He had been using the card unnoticed from September 2013 to April 2018.
Osoro, who is the head of administration at the ODPP, was apprehended alongside five petrol station workers who helped him in the scam.
He was later arraigned in Milimani Law Court and released on Ksh 1.5 million bond or an alternative of Ksh 600,000 cash bail.
Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi ordered the accused to deposit his passport in court and denied him access to ODPP offices unless with authorization from Haji.
The revitalized war on graft has been highly commended by Kenyans as it does not spare corrupt individuals on the basis of their offices.
the recent victim of the high profile arrests is DCJ Philomena Mwilu.
Mwilu was arrested on counts of bribery, tax evasion, abuse of office and obtaining a loan from Imperial Bank under false pretence.
