School Heads Asking for Fees to Be Prosecuted

Deputy President William Ruto has issued a directive for the prosecution all school heads asking for fees in public primary schools.

Speaking in Saku Constituency in Marsabit County on Friday, Ruto stated that head teachers and members of boards of management will be charged in court if they ask parents to pay for fees.

The DP also mentioned that principals will be held to account if they ask for any payments in day secondary schools.

Chiefs and county commissioners will be held liable if children in their jurisdictions fail to attend school.

“We want equality in our society, whether you are from a poor or rich background. If we can achieve universal access to education, we would be on our way to attaining that dream as a country,” Ruto remarked.

He indicated that the government will from next month give a Ksh 30,000 bursary to every student attending technical training.

While opening the 10th Africa Confederation of Principals (ACP) in Mombasa, President Uhuru Kenyatta stated his administration will ensure all children access education.

He urged principals to ensure students were equipped with skills required in the job market.

“The reforms we are undertaking will make sure all Kenyan children access free primary and secondary education.

"Teachers have one of the biggest roles in moulding new generations and their input in Pan-Africanism is invaluable," Uhuru noted.
