Deputy President William Ruto Rides Camel to International Event

Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday rode on a Camel's back to the Mararal International camel derby.

The DP joined locals and foreigners at the event which is held annually to promote tourism in the region.

DP Ruto stated: "The Maralal International Camel Derby is an opportunity for Kenya to showcase its diverse offerings, including sport, scenic, economic and cultural tourism. The annual race attracts local and international participants and is a rewarding immersion experience."

He further added: "It is a melting pot of different cultures and promotes diversity, integration, cohesion, peace, socio-economic growth that are critical to nation-building."

Ruto lauded the local women for their initiative Ushanga Kenya and pledged Government support adding that they will seek an international market for Ushanga Products.

He further applauded the initiative for seeking to reduce inequalities by enhancing economic opportunities for Indigenous Women in Kenya through utilization of indigenous knowledge.

The Mararal derby is Kenya’s best known and most prestigious camel race, which attracts local and international competitors drawing in spectators and racers, to the competition which is quite fierce.

Before heading to Mararal the DP was in Marsabit where he warned that school heads and boards of management will be prosecuted for charging fees in public primary institutions.

The DP further cautioned chiefs and county commissioners stating they will be held liable if children in their jurisdictions fail to attend school.

Ruto stated that from next month the government will start giving Ksh30,000 bursary to every student attending technical training a move which is aimed at boosting transition from secondary to tertiary education.
