Migori Governor Okoth Obado's PA Arrested Over Nation Journalist Kidnapping

Detectives on Tuesday arrested Michael Oyamo, the personal assistant of Migori Governor Okoth Obado, in connection with the abduction of a Nation journalist Barrack Oduor and a university student Sharon Otieno.

Migori CID boss Benedict Kigen confirmed Oyamo was arrest which came shortly after media lobby groups asked the police to investigate the incident with a view of arresting and prosecuting culprits.

Addressing the issue, Governor Obado's office denied playing any part in the abduction of the journalist and Sharon Otieno, a second-year student at Rongo University.

Obado’s press secretary Nicholas Anyuor stated that linking the governor to the incident could be a political ploy meant to tarnish his name.

“Governor Obado is not aware of such a plan and his name should not be dragged into such criminal schemes. Let police do the investigations and take necessary actions,” Anyuor stated.

Oduor and Otieno were abducted moments after leaving Graca Hotel in Rongo on Monday night.

The journalist jumped out of a speeding vehicle on the Homa Bay-Kisumu road but the whereabouts of Sharon Otieno is still unknown.

A good Samaritan drove the journalist to Adiedo Police Post, handed him to the police and later was later moved in a police car to Kendu Bay Police Station where he recorded his statement OB Number 41/04/09/2018.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Nyanza stated Tuesday that search for the student was ongoing.

Nyanza CID boss Michael Baraza assured investigations into the entire incident will be fast-tracked.
