Standard Group to Release Swahili Newspaper & Burudani TV

The Standard Group is set to launch an additional media outlet to rival Nation Media Group's Swahili readership after acquiring a coast-based publication.

The media house will now run Pambazuko, a coast-based publication that has over the years packaged itself as the official newspaper for the region.

Currently, Taifa Leo is the only Swahili publication with national circulation and has struggled with its readership over the years.

Nation media's investment in the Swahili audience on the digital space has not increased its command despite running both Swahilihub and Taifaleo news site.

It is still unclear whether the Swahili newspaper to be launched by the Standard soon shall have an online version given most media houses were going digital for better revenues.

The media house is also expanding its Television investments with the upcoming all-time entertainment Television channel dubbed BurudaniTV.

A radio station is also in the offing to back Radio Maisha revenues.

According to insiders, the new TV station will be launched by the end of the year as the group targets more a youthful audience.

Once established, BurudaniTV will be the group's third station and will largely be used as a music and comics platform.

Last year, the media house revamped the look and content for The Standard Newspaper, introducing three pullouts all aimed at driving the agenda for the Kenyan youth in the education, entertainment and financial sectors.
