Deaths Reported as Probox Mistakenly Reverses off a Cliff at Kolol Viewpoint

Two people were killed and five others seriously injured after the Probox they were in reversed off a cliff along Kolool area in Kabarnet – Iten road.

Confirming the incident, Kapito sub-location Chief John Kiptallum Letyo stated that the accident occurred at Kolol viewpoint when the occupants had stopped over.

He added that prior to their untimely demise, the individuals were on their way to a burial at Kabartonjo before they made the stopover.

"After some few minutes of taking a view of the surrounding Kerio Valley escarpment, they went back into their vehicle and it plummeted down the cliff as the driver tried to reverse," he was quoted by Citizen digital.

The injured were rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

The area is a known black spot with several accidents being reported at the same place.

 Earlier in July, a 14-seater matatu veered off the road and rolled several times at a sharp bent near in the area.

Confirming the incident at the time, Keiyo North police boss Mwenda Meme stated that four people perished during the early morning crash.

“The matatu lost stability after it was hit from behind by a saloon car and started rolling several times. Passengers sustained cuts and fracture due to the impact,” Meme stated.

Drivers are cautioned when driving in the area because of the hilly terrain and the sharp corners.
