Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has indicated that his party will approach Jubilee in an effort to establish a working partnership in case a by-election is called for the Embakasi South Parliamentary seat.
Kalonzo, in a recent event, explained that the union will help MP Julius Mawathe, whose election was nullified, retain his seat if the legislator loses his case at the Supreme Court.
“I have a lot of respect for my brother Sumra (Irshad), but because he will be running on ODM, we will work with Jubilee to support Mawathe. It is as simple as that. I will be approaching Jubilee for that purpose. So I want you to be prepared,” stated Kalonzo at a recent event.
Kalonzo pointed out that the conflict between the two would have been avoided if the National Super Alliance (NASA) party leaders were consulted.
He further suggested for the two to sit down and find a solution to the problem in order to avoid the by-election.
This comes after former MP Irshad Surma filed a petition at the Court of Appeal which led to Mawathe’s win during the 2017 General Election nullified.
According to the Court of Appeal, the election was not free and fair hence directed the IEBC to hold fresh polls.
Surma claimed that the Returning Officer declared the wrong results and handed the win to the loser.
The former Embakasi South lawmaker lost the election by 172 votes after he garnered 33,708 votes against Mr Mawathe’s 33, 880 votes.
Mr Surma had lost a similar case in March after the High Court upheld Mawathe’s win.
Mawathe has since moved to the Supreme Court to challenge the Court of Appeal ruling claiming malice by Mr. Surma.
