ANC Member Joshua Obiende Withdraws Case Against Babu Owino

An assault case filed against Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was withdrawn on Monday on the basis of God's intervention.

Amani National Congress aspirant in the 2017 General Election Joshua Otieno Obiende informed the court that he chose to withdraw the case after God told him to forgive the MP.

Obiende told the Kibera Law Court that God influenced him to forgive Babu and that whatever happened between them is history.

“I have not been coerced. I have done this in the spirit of brotherhood. God directed me to forgive and if God forgives, who cannot forgive,” stated Obiende.

The Amani National Congress member revealed that Babu did not offer him any compensation and that God would compensate him.

Babu’s lawyer highlighted that the two parties had decided to reconcile and there was no need to have the hearing.

The process was completed through the filing of an affidavit.

This comes months after Obiende filed a petition accusing the former University of Nairobi student leader of assaulting him at a polling station.

The Embakasi East MP was in a second account accused of preventing Obiende from casting his vote which is against the Elections Act.

In September 2017, the controversial lawmaker was arrested over claims of abusive remarks on President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The lawmaker was later released on a Ksh500,000 bail and two sureties of Ksh1 million each.
