MCAs Expose Reasons Behind Evecting Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi

A section of Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) has revealed personal issues they had with Speaker Beatrice Elachi after storming into her office on Monday to evict her.

A ward rep was recorded on video declaring that the Speaker must vacate office because “she denied them trips.”

The rep was heard chanting “Elachi akwendeanaenda America pekee yake anatunyima safari.Apeleke ujinga kwake (Elachi must go! She went to America and failed to approve our trip. She must leave!). No Sonko No peace,” she declared.

The same MCA was heard declaring: ”Huyu mama hajawai nipenda. Kutoka tuingie amekua akinichukia na mimi pia simpendi, akwende huko (She has never liked me. Since we came to the House she has been hating on me. I dislike her so she must leave).”

The chaos that erupted in City Hall on Monday, where the MCAs stormed into her office, was occasioned by them seeking after passing an impeachment motion.

Apart from two female MCAs who seemed angered by the Speaker, other legislators joined in with Majority Leader Abdi Guyo informing her she had no business being in office yet her employer was not satisfied with her job.

Elachi, however, reported to work on Monday following a court order which reinstated her, a decision that did not go well with some MCAs.

She explained that her relationship with the MCAs was largely about money “because if I had the money, we would have had very different relationships.”

The comments by the ward rep prompted reactions from a section of Kenyans who questioned if the Speaker was being fought over personal reasons or her competence.

A sample of the reactions are as below;
