Migori Governor Okoth Obado on Sunday warned members of the public against conmen fundraising in his name amidst Sharon Otieno's murder probe.
The Governor exposed the fraudsters using the phone number 0722219297 to solicit funds "on his behalf".
According to Obado's communication director Nicholas Anyuor, the fraudsters have been making distress calls to the county residents alleging that the governor is in dire need of money.
"It has come to our attention that a fraudster is using the phone number to extort money from members of the public," Anyuor stated.
"This is fraudulent and untrue. It is a fabrication whose intention is to rob members of the public and soil the reputation of the Governor," the communication director added.
He further dismissed allegations that the Migori County chief is broke and has resorted to selling off his properties to meet his financial obligations.
"Governor Obado is not, in any way, selling any of his property to get money," Anyuor quipped.
Governor Obado hit the headlines after his Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo was implicated in the murder of the Rongo University student.
A 7-months-pregnant Sharon was kidnapped alongside Nation journalist Barack Oduor who allegedly later escaped by jumping off the speeding car.
Her lifeless body was later discovered inside Kodera forest, Homa Bay county with eight knife stabs.
