More Witnesses Offer Police Details of Sharon Otieno's Murder Case

The investigations into the murder of Sharon Otieno have clocked the third week with more witnesses giving their account to detectives in Migori.

On Sunday evening, more witnesses recorded statements at Migori Police Station detailing their involvement in the murder of Sharon and abduction of Nation Journalist Barack Oduor.

Migori County Criminal Investigations Directorate boss Benedict Kigen dismissed earlier reports that there were fresh arrests made in Migori holding the trio were only required to give statements that would aid the probe.

"We are gathering information from witnesses to firm up the prosecution's case. We have not arrested any new suspects in the matter as alleged on social media," confirmed Kigen.

As at now, only two suspects; Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s personal assistant Michael Oyamo and former Member of County Assembly (MCA) Lawrence Mula have been arrested and arraigned in court over Sharon’s murder.

The CID boss denied reports of another suspect being arrested in connection to the murder as the deceased's family appeals for Justice and prosecution of the criminals.

On  Friday, the family interred the body of Sharon's unborn baby on Friday evening after being delayed over lack of a burial permit.

The lifeless foetus could not be buried before noon as required by the Luo traditions since the family did not have a burial permit.

The ceremony had been scheduled for Thursday last week but was postponed to allow involvement of the Homa Bay County.

Meanwhile, the detectives are analysing telephone communication data drawn from devices of the persons of interest in the murder case.

They have also obtained fingerprints from clothes and other items found at the scene where Sharon's body was found.

Late last week, the multi-agency team was seeking to obtain travel documents used by Sharon and the journalist to travel to Nairobi where they were supposed to meet governor Obado.

It is not yet clear whether the two managed to meet the governor in Nairobi but sources say the meeting failed to materialize as planned because the county boss was out of town on the agreed day.
