The office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was reported to have launched investigations into a mysterious gun attack at Anniversary Towers.
Reports by People Daily claimed that the DCI had extended the probe to within the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The newspaper claimed that detectives were not overlooking the possibility of the attack being connected to the brewing storm within the Wafula Chebukati-led institution.
A “stray bullet” was reported to have hit the 19th-floor window of the IEBC headquarters on September 6, at 3:30 pm where a bullet cartridge was later recovered.
Notably, the Higher Education and Loans Board (Helb) ICT offices occupy the office block in question.
The investigations come barely a week after two officials allegedly tried to sneak out 14 financial and procurement files from the commission.
IEBC Finance and Administration boss Agatha Wahome and Abednego Ominde, personal assistant to suspended Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba, who have recorded statements on the matter, have denied claims of attempting to steal the files.
The two are expected back at the Nairobi Central Police Station on Thursday to record further statements with detectives.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, IEBC Communications Director Andrew Limo rubbished the claims by publication.
Limo stated: "We don't occupy 19th floor of the Anniversary Towers. Those who rent that floor are better placed to explain what happened."
The IEBC Communications Director added: "It is absurd and extremely irresponsible for anyone to associate this incident with IEBC."
