IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba's Assistant Abednego Ominde Arrested

Suspended IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba assistant Abednego Ominde has been arrested.

The aide was apprehended alongside Acting IEBC Finance boss Agatha Wahome on allegations of trying to sneak out files.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati confirmed that the two officials were arrested as they tried to leave the office with 14 files from the procurement departments.

"Yes, I can confirm that the said individual who is a PA to the suspended CEO was nabbed at the basement parking with the files. I don’t want to speculate on the motive but you can tell" remarked Chebukati.

This comes two months after the Employment and Labour Relations Court upheld Chiloba's suspension.

The court instructed him to stay away from his office for three months awaiting the findings of the audit into the procurement of key election materials in the 2017 General Elections.

Chiloba had filed a petition to lift the suspension claiming that Chebukati had violated a court order in suspending him for a second time.

Lawyer Andrew Wandabwa argued that the suspension was uncalled for and had a motive behind it.

"Their conduct of sending the CEO on further three months’ suspension in effect removes him from his employment and is without any basis in law, malicious, high-handed, capricious and calculated to injure him," remarked Wandabwa.

The chairman of the commission stated that the judge had not stopped the commission from sending Chiloba on another compulsory leave.

He argued that the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case considering that they did not disobey the order.

Chebukati revealed that there were fears that Chiloba would obstruct investigations of the audit if he remained in office.
