Kenya's Trending Topics on September 25, 2018

Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday became a trending topic on Twitter after he was quoted questioning the rationale behind hiked prices of meat.

"Some butchers have also increased the price of meat because of VAT. Do cows drink petrol?" the DP posed.

Kenyans had harsh comebacks for the DP that caused the topic "Ruto" to trend. Here are some of the comments that were shared.

Kenyans were less than pleased by the DP's question with some recalling a past instance where he claimed that rain comes from heaven, not trees.

Majority of the commentators alluded to the incidents implying that the DP was out of touch with the workings of everyday life.

During Monday's statement, DP Ruto also cautioned matatu operators who have hiked prices beyond the 8% VAT provision asking them to adhere to it instead of overcharging passengers.

"If tax has been reduced from 16% to 8% and your initial bus fare was Ksh100, you should now pay Ksh108, not 200.

"We should join hands and chase away these criminals," he stated.
