Baringo MCAs on The Spot for Purchasing Ksh20,000 Chopping Board

Baringo Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in office between 2013 and 2017 are on the spot over the Ksh20,000 purchase of a wooden chopping board.

The suspicious purchase is among several others listed in a report by the assembly's Public Accounts Committee.

The payment made to Brandhouse Solutions for the chopping board was also irregular, with the firm accused of failing to follow the set guidelines.

Majority Leader Lawi Kipchumba called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to launch a probe into the ward representatives' alleged dealings.

“There are a lot of shoddy jobs, stalled projects and misappropriation of funds at the assembly.

"We are calling on Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to come and follow the people who were here before because some items such as a chopping board was procured at a price that would cost a whole tree. Selling us a log of two feet high at such a cost is a joke,”  he stated.

Kipchumba further described the expenditure as 'a joke'.

A storm is also brewing over Sh17 million that was used to renovate the county assembly canteen.

"Those responsible for the purchase should be surcharged the amount in excess of the market price at the time," stated Nominated MCA Saphina Chelagat.

MCAs in various counties have been accused of misusing public funds especially by planning unnecessary foreign trips, orchestrating graft within the assembly and extorting leaders.
