Heated Reactions After MPs Demanded VIP Treatment for Obado in Prison

Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi sparked outrage after demanding that Migori Governor Okoth Obado is given VIP treatment in prison.

The MP appeared on Citizen TV on Friday where he claimed that the law ought to be reviewed to allow high-profile members of society to be remanded in high-standard detention facilities.

"Some Police Stations have better facilities than others such as Kileleshwa. I am sure Obado is not having a good time at Industrial Area.

"I think VIPs should get better treatment as remandees owing to their status in society," the MP stated.

He went on to suggest that the government ought to put up different facilities to hold only VIPs who are incarcerated or being held in custody.

The MP remarked: "I think we need special remands for VIPs."

Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo supported the argument suggesting that VIPs may be brutalized in normal prisons.

"When VIPs are in custody, they may meet relatives of those who they are suspected to have hurt. These relatives may mete justice," the MP added.

The sentiments were met with strong opposition from members of the public who were incensed by the prospect of five-star treatment even for a felon.
