Governor Mike Sonko Makes Impromptu Visit to Mbagathi Hospital

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko stormed Mbagathi County Hospital on Saturday at 4:38 am.

The Governor who broadcasted the visit through a live stream on his Facebook page caught the staff off guard when he asked to tour the hospital's facilities.

He interacted with some of the outpatients who expressed their satisfaction with the services.

He, however, raised queries with the staff about electrical and window repairs that were long overdue.

Before his visit to Mbagathi, Sonko had made a stopover at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital where he met people who were waiting for their loved ones to give birth.

He dished out money to those at the waiting area after they conveyed that they needed fare to go back home.

Early in September 2018, Sonko conducted an impromptu visit to the hospital where he discovered bodies of infants who were hidden in carton boxes.

He was quick to suspend Health Executives over what he described as incompetence.

On September 22 he announced that the Pumwani Maternity Hospital would be renamed to Sonko Pumwani Women's Hospital and College of Nursing and Midwifery after an agreement with Aga Khan University Hospital.

"The new 10-storey Sonko Pumwani Maternity Hospital which will stand side by side with the old hospital will compose of a paediatric ICU, an adult ICU, an HDU, staff quarters, laundry and all necessary facilities," a statement form his office read in part.
