An ODM legislator was on Saturday night roughed up by rowdy youth at a hotel in Busia Town.
The youth are said to have flocked the hotel at around 2am and blocked Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala from leaving.
It is reported that they roughed him up demanding payment for security services allegedly rendered to the MP’s camp during the 2017 General Election.
They claimed that Wanjala owed them Ksh 50,000.
The enraged youth arrived at the hotel after being informed of the legislator’s presence.
Busia OCPD Masai Makau confirmed the incident and mentioned that police officers came to the aid of Wanjala and whisked him out of the premises.
"The MP was blocked by some unruly boys who were demanding payment for last year’s campaign… they said he had not paid them.
"Police officers covered him and managed to get him out of the hotel and into their vehicle," the OCPD remarked.
Makau also refuted claims that they fired in the air to disperse group.
The MP was arrested in April after he allegedly attacked foreign affairs chief administrative secretary Ababu Namwamba.
