Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi on Sunday asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to fire policymakers in his government.
Mudavadi indicated that as part of the accountability for the hefty public debt accrued, Uhuru should dismiss senior officials for misleading the country.
"Taking responsibility is not necessarily locking somebody in jail. Bad policies that have caused as anguish if not necessarily a criminal process, they have put us in despair," Mudavadi stated.
The ANC party leader asserted that Uhuru needs to fire such leaders to send out a stern warning and to cushion Kenyans from such misdeeds in the future.
"Send the message that people cannot just sit there, make policies that are very harmful, leave it at your lap, and go dancing as if nothing has happened. Take some of them out. Some of them may have to be sent home," Mudavadi added.
Borrowing from 2017 campaign "nasa hawa (nab thes ones)", Mudavadi advised Uhuru to adopt the slogan "furusha hawa (send these ones packing)".
Mudavadi further indicated that the country will not go to the rumoured Constitutional Amendment Referendum unless the current economic mess is sorted out. He further added that for the referendum to be carried out, there needs to be a restructuring of IEBC.
"IEBC is the only institution mandated by the constitution to oversee the exercise. Currently, we don't even know how many commissioners are left," Mudavadi stated.
Mudavadi indicated that statics provided by the government in the contrary were deceptive and were not reflecting the true state of the ailing economy.
"I started raising the alarm bells as early as 2016, that the pace and haste of government borrowing will drive us into a very tough situation, it has happened," he concluded.
