24-Year Old Patient Commits Suicide in Embu Hospital Psychiatric Ward

A 24-year old patient believed to be suffering from mental illness committed suicide at the Embu Level Five Hospital on Sunday.

Martin Njeru took his own life at the Psychiatric ward where he was admitted.

According to authorities, he used bed-sheets to hang himself and his body was found dangling from the window grills.

“As one of the nurses was going to monitor his progress, he found him having taken his life with a piece of cloth.

"The nurse reported the matter and police were called in,” stated Embu West DCIO George Etyang.

Njeru was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday by his parents after his condition reportedly became severe.

He was admitted on recommendation from doctors at the facility who wanted to assess him.

“The patient had been rushed to the hospital by his parents two days ago where the health workers advised that he be admitted.

"He was being attended to and had been given medication to calm him and was under observation," disclosed Etyang.

Scene of crime officers arrived at the hospital as investigations into the death were opened.

Njeru's body was later moved to the hospital mortuary.
