Sharon Otieno's Burial to Cost Over Ksh 1 Million - Family Announces

Slain university student Sharon Otieno’s family on Tuesday revealed that the burial expenses for their daughter will amount to over Ksh1 million.

The family, through their spokesperson Elijah Opiyo, also announced that the deceased would be laid to rest on October 19.

Opiyo stated that the burial committee had held several meetings to ensure that Sharon was given a decent send off.

“We have not hit the target to cater for the burial expenses and we are appealing to well-wishers to assist us,” remarked Opiyo.

The procession is set to leave the Kirindo Hospital mortuary in Mbita on October 18 then proceed for the burial the following day at her grandfather’s home in Magare village, Kanyabala location.

The family spokesperson highlighted that they are expecting a high number of visitors during the burial.

Sharon’s murder case is yet to be determined with investigations still ongoing.

Migori Governor Okoth Obado, who is one of the suspects in Sharon’s murder, was denied bail on September 27 and remained in police custody until his next hearing on October 8.

High court Judge Lessit ruled that the court could not grant him bail before all the witness statements are presented in court.

The ruling came as a relief to the prosecution team that had argued his release would lead to interference with the investigations.

On the same day, Governor Obado's personal assistant Caspal Ojwang Obiero was also presented in court where he pleaded not guilty to the murder and was remanded until October 8 when his case will be heard.
