Johnstone Muthama Gives Kalonzo Musyoka 14-Day Ultimatum

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama issued a 14-day ultimatum to Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka concerning his 2022 presidential ambitions.

Muthama warned the party leader to rally Ukambani leaders to support his bid and breakaway from ODM party leader Raila Odinga

The former Senator who seemed to have broken ties with the ODM party leader, as he also announced that he was against the Constitutional Referendum the former prime minister is championing.

"I am giving Kalonzo 14 days to mobilise elected leaders in Ukambani to traverse the country and sell him as a presidential candidate.

"It is unfortunate that none of the elected leaders has taken such initiative. They have just been moving around in local villages saying Kalonzo will be president," Muthama stated.

Muthama complained that the Wiper party leader had entered a "deep political slumber" which would hurt any chances he has at the presidency in 2022.

The luminary insisted that both Odinga and Kalonzo had failed in their mandate as opposition leaders stating that they should not have supported the 8% VAT on petroleum products instead they ought to have rejected the tax altogether.

Leaders in the Opposition have increasingly pitted the former PM against his National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principals based on Mr Odinga's reconciliation handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Muthama clarified that he was against the proposed referendum because it proposes that three Ukambani counties - Machakos, Makueni and Kitui - be combined into one.

He argued that the merger would affect devolution gains such as local access to government services.
