Raila Odinga's advisor Salim Lone has thrown his weight behind Siaya Senator James Orengo as the former Prime Minister's likely successor.
Orengo has been described by political analyst Godfrey Sang as a straight-shooting, fire-breathing, threat making politician who has no kind words for Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee government.
"My good friend Godfrey Sang is right-Orengo is the best we have had for decades, he would be ideal as Raila's successor when the time comes," Lone tweeted.
The senator has been likened to Raila in that, he has lived in exile, been jailed, and endured police brutality.
The Senate minority leader has been known as a political activist since his days as a student leader at the University of Nairobi.
He led fellow students in many protests fighting against issues that he felt needed changing both at the university level and at the national level.
The renown lawyer made his way into elective politics at the age of 29 when he became the Member of Parliament for Ugenya Constituency in 1980.
The long-serving legislator had vied for the presidency in 2002 but lost to Mwai Kibaki and later joined ODM where he has been by Odinga’s side since.
However, Orengo went against his party leader when he refused to support the Finance Bill 2018 as instructed.
He was accused of rallying Otiende Amolo (Rarieda), Paul Abuor (Rongo), Peter Kaluma (Homa Bay), TJ Kajwang' (Ruaraka), Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), Martin Owino (Ndhiwa), Mark Nyamita (Uriri) and Migori Woman Representative Dr. Pamela Odhiambo to defy Odinga.
