The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) has urged Kenyans to be cautious against scammers purporting to be from the council and offering fake job positions.

In a statement on Thursday, April 10, the council warned that there has been an accelerating rate of scammers offering fake opportunities, county office jobs, and board positions, especially to nursing and midwifery students.

"It has been brought to our attention that various stakeholders have received calls from an individual purporting to be from NCK and that they are offering employment opportunities at the county offices and board positions," it stated.

"Please pay no heed to such fraudulent calls. These callers are in no way associated with NCK," it added.

NCK has urged stakeholders receiving such calls to get in touch with the council by forwarding the mobile number of the scammer to the council's email.

Additionally, the council has urged Kenyans to report to the nearest police station, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), or the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) if they receive such calls.

"If you have any doubts about the authenticity of a call, message, or email purportedly from or referring to NCK, please email us," it stated.

In the recent past, job scamming in the country has been a thorn in the flesh, with many unsuspecting Kenyans falling prey to scammers who extort money from them. Many leaders have attributed this trend to the lack of jobs in Kenya.

On Wednesday, April 2, during a Senate session, nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba called for the dismissal of the Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, whom she accused of tolerating job scams in the country.

Orwoba, who branded Mutua as incompetent, said that President William Ruto should fire the CS since he is unable to suppress this worrying trend that has affected many Kenyans, especially those seeking employment abroad.

"I want to call upon the president to fire the cabinet secretary of labour because he knows what is happening, and he knows exactly why we are upset," she said.

"This person is incompetent, and his interests have been seen because he is not there for the people of Kenya, and I want to say this with all fairness: let him go home," she added.

Orwoba further slammed leaders, claiming that Kenyans should be 'wise enough' not to fall into the traps of the scammers,  emphasising that many jobless Kenyans are desperate for jobs.
