New Job CS Margaret Kobia Wants Martha Karua to Take

Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Margaret Kobia has indicated that Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua should be hired to train leaders under the Women in Leadership Curriculum.

Speaking during the launch of the program on Monday, the CS noted that Karua and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu had weathered the political storms since 1992 when they were elected to parliament.

"Mama Ngilu and Martha Karua are some of them who have fought through to be where they are today. Thank you for being strong and standing by each other," CS Kobia stated.

In her view, the two women leaders would provide exemplary guidance to their counterparts who still have challenges in leadership.

Taking to the podium, the Kitui Governor stated: "I should go to Kenya School of Government to share my experiences with the women that will be trained there."

On her part, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris asserted: "We need to be talking about achieving planet 50/50. The number of Women in leadership has to increase".

During the forum on transformative leadership, it was noted for instance that Nairobi County has only 5 women elected MCAs against 80 elected men.

While emphasizing that women are capable of holding any position of power, Governor Ngilu added that women need to strive to be elected which will also reduce the budget of Nominated members.

"We should have women from all over the country running for office," she added.

The three-level course will be available for free to the CECs, Directors and Chief Officers at the Kenya School of Government.

During the 2017 General Elections, Kenyans voted in 3 Women Governors and 8 Women Deputy Governors based on merit raising hope of the possibility to increase women representation in leadership.

However, the country still lags far behind the minimum thresholds set for women representation under the 2/3 gender rule.
