Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe on Thursday underwent a mental assessment as required by law for those facing murder charges.
Releasing the results of the assessment, her lawyer Katwa Kigen stated the journalist had been declared fit to stand trial.
“She is well as we all expected. We all saw her the last time we were in court and now we will move forward with the plea-taking on Monday then apply for bail,” he indicated.
Maribe and her fiancé Joseph Irungu alias Jowie will take a plea on Monday as was scheduled.
Justice Lessit had postponed the plea hearing ordering Maribe to be taken to Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital for a mental assessment.“
The second accused cannot take a plea until her mental capacity is ascertained. The court will, therefore, resume on Monday,” Justice Lessit said as Maribe’s lawyer Katwa Kigen protested.
The two face charges of murder after businesswoman Monica Kimani was found dead in her Kilimani apartment on September 20.
Jowie, the main suspect in the case, was arrested on September 24 after police placed him at the scene of the crime.
Police described the murder of Monica as “the work of a highly trained assassin”.
CCTV footage also showed he used Maribe’s car to get to Lemuria Apartments on Kitale Lane, off Denis Pritt Road where Monica lived.
Maribe was arrested five days later and it was initially expected that she would be charged with accessory to murder.
However, the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji on Monday ordered Maribe to be charged with murder, leading to the consolidation of the charges facing her and Mr Irungu.
