Auditor General Accuses Staff of Soliciting Ksh20M Bribe

The office of the Auditor General has clashed with one of its top managers over claims that he solicited Ksh20 million bribe.

The office claimed that Raphael Muigai Ikame, who was the auditor manager in charge of Kirinyaga and Nyeri counties, had solicited for the bribe in order to modify the findings of Kirinyaga.

In a lawsuit, it is claimed that Mr Ikame asked the county’s officials for a bribe in order to modify the findings during a hotel meeting.

The letter further revealed that Mr Ikame asked for the bribe while leading a team of eight people during the audit of the county.

The lawsuit further showed that he called all contractors and county officials and threatened to put them on the blacklist if they did not pay up.

The claim was for the auditing of the 2016/2017 financial period which was carried out in November of 2017.

According to Business Daily, Mr. Ikame, who has since been reinstated, was being investigated over the allegations but nothing was unearthed.

The Auditor Manager has accused the Auditor General of half pay since his reinstatement in April this year.

In 2016, the entire office of the Auditor General came under fire over bribery allegations.

MCAs claimed that employees of the office routinely solicited bribes in order to keep under cover the massive theft experienced in different ministries across the country.
