Mike Sonko Speaks on Drafting Bill to Scrap Kericho County

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, through his communication's director, Jacob Elkana, has refuted claims that he has drafted a bill to do away with Kericho County.

Reports alleged that Sonko had drafted the Bill seeking to have Kericho County scarped and its administrative centres divided between Bomet, Nandi, Kisumu, Narok and Nakuru counties.

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot had stated that he would propose for Nairobi County to be dissolved.

He argued that it was a focal centre which houses several international agencies.

Cheruiyot claimed that Nairobi should be managed by the national government which has the capacity to solve a majority of the problems facing the city.

The Senator proposed amendment of Article Six, clause one, of the Constitution to indicate Kenya is divided into national capital city and counties.

"When you prescribe regional problems and allocate budget the same way as other counties, we getting it all wrong," Cheruiyot stated.

"If you ask Nairobi residents the problems they are facing, they will tell you they need security, water, traffic jams and many other such problems which cannot be handled by a county," he added.

Cheruiyot further proposed a Constitutional amendment to indicate that Nairobi shall be the seat of national government.

He also urged the president to appoint a Cabinet Secretary to be in charge of the city.
