6 Arrested in Mlolongo Distributing Toxic Diapers

Police officers from Nairobi and Athi River on Friday arrested six suspects at a warehouse where they had been distributing toxic diapers.

The officers busted them at Eens Go-down, Kapa in Mlolongo where they had repackaged the expired diapers into known brands that were sold to consumers.

Reports indicated that the harmful diapers weighed 4 tonnes and were worth millions.

The officers, who acted after being tipped off, forced their way into the go-down and seized the 'Ezee' branded diapers that were in bales of small, medium and large diapers.

The pampers from China which had been distributed for some time by the criminals, had expired in February this year.

The consignment was later taken back to the DCI offices in Nairobi under tight security.

In September, officers in Eldoret arrested two traders including a British national after they impounded expired food products worth Ksh 20 million.

Eldoret West OCPD Zacharia Bitok stated that some of the products were rotten and had expired in 2011.

He further affirmed that the goods were being repackaged with fake KEBS stickers awaiting transportation.

"It's immoral and illegal for people to engage in such business of selling harmful products to the public," remarked Bitok.
