Government Launches Huduma Whitebox

The government has launched a new portal through which Kenyans can sell innovative ideas and products to it.

The platform dubbed Huduma Whitebox has been launched by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru to mark the end of the Connected Kenya Summit at Bomas of Kenya.

An advisor to the CS divulged to Kenyans.co.ke that the platform will be consolidated under the government’s Huduma Centres.

Preference will be given to products that focus on the Big 4 Agenda and address government priorities and challenges.

Mucheru stated that his ministry will set aside Ksh1 billion to support the startup ecosystem in the country.

The process involves four easy steps. First, one will need to create an account on www.whitebox.co.ke and submit details of their product or innovation.

In the second step, the submission will be evaluated to determine its viability and the support required to actualise it.

Upon reaching the third stage, the product will be recommended for government use or for technical assistance through the government’s incubation partners.

The final step will involve working with the Whitebox team on the rollout of the approved product which will be guided by government procurement laws.

A noteworthy product of the program is Damu Sasa, a platform that links up all the stakeholders in the blood donation and delivery service seamlessly, in a bid to help them manage blood services more effectively.

During his speech, the CS highlighted Damu Sasa’s achievements which include a partnership with AMREF to scale up the availability of blood supply.
