Former ICT PS Sammy Itemere Arrested Over Stolen Ksh 122 Million

Former ICT Principal Secretary Sammy Itemere was on Sunday arrested over alleged misappropriation of Ksh 122 million meant for payment to media companies for services rendered to the government.

Itemere surrendered to the police and is being held at the Karen Police Station awaiting prosecution on Monday.

The former PS becomes the third person after the arrests of Lugari MP Ayub Savula and former Director of Government Advertising Agency (GAA) Dennis Chebitwey.

The three are expected to take a plea when they will be arraigned in court on Monday.

Itemere, Savula and Chebitwey will face charges of obtaining money by false pretence, making a document without authority and aiding in the commission of a felony.

Chebitwey and Itemere will face an additional charge of abuse of office.

According to the police, the wives to Savula are also expected to appear before investigators for questioning as part of the directive given by DPP Noordin Haji.

"I am satisfied there is sufficient evidence of fraudulent advertisement and payment of Sh122,335,500 to honourable Ayub Savula, Melody Gatwiri and Hellen Kemboi, the Sunday Publishers Limited, Melsav Company Ltd, Johnnewton Communications, the Express Media Group, No Burns Protection Ltd, Cross Continent Ventures Ltd and Sheldlock Ltd respectively," stated Haji.

He further affirmed that Itemere approved the payment of the funds.

"I am further satisfied that Sammy Ishiundu Itemere approved fraudulent payments of Ksh 122, 335,500 to the aforementioned names and companies," remarked the DPP.
