Martha Karua's Response on Taking EACC Top Job

Former Cabinet Minister and Presidential Candidate Martha Karua on Tuesday spoke on taking over from Halakhe Waqo whose term at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is coming to an end.

Waqo has served in the position for the past six years.

When a user on Twitter named the former Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister as the best suited to take over the position, Karua made it clear that she was not interested.

"Thanks but no," she simply wrote.

Waqo's position was advertised on October 9th with the EACC asking qualified individuals to apply.

One must have 10 year of management experience and meet  the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution to serve in the position.

They must also obtain clearance certificates from the EACC itself, the Kenya Revenue Authority, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Higher Education Loans Board and the Credit Reference Bureau

Names of shortlisted candidates will be published in the newspaper and on the commission's website.

The successful candidate's name will then be forwarded to the National Assembly for approval.

Kenya still ranks among the 50 most corrupt countries in the world, according to the Global Corruption Perception Index (CPI 2017).
