Governor Mike Sonko Rewards Kenya Amputee Team in Mexico World Cup

Governor Mike Sonko has sent Ksh500,000 to the Kenyan National Amputee football team after they thrashed USA 2–1.

This comes after the Governor had promised to reward the team Ksh 2 million if they carried the World cup title or Ksh 1 million if they emerged 1st runners up in the sport currently ongoing in Mexico.

Receiving the cash reward, a member of the team appreciated stating that they had complained for a while but someone finally listened to their grievances.

“After sisi Kupiga kelele...Governor wetu Sonko ametuahidi kitu na amesema ametupatia award kidogo ya kushika mfuko, (After we complained, our Governor Sonko promised to give us something and has offered a small award to survive by)” stated the player.

This was met with jubilation from the rest of the team members who were chanting Mike Sonko’s name while wearing a yellow T-shirt branded “Team Sonko.”

The team is competing while wearing those branded T-shirts after it was claimed that they did not have enough funds to acquire their own jerseys.

Sonko had earlier offered to pay their allowances and bought them gaming kits which enabled them to attend the competition.

The team is set to play against Russia on Thursday evening.

They had previously attended a World Cup Championship in 2014 emerging position 17 out of the 24 countries that participated.

The game is played by seven members on each side who use crutches competing for 50 minutes total time with each half going for 25 minutes.

Sonko, in the past, rewarded the National Football team, Harambee Stars, Ksh3 million after they beat Ethiopia 3-0 at Kasarani.
