Esther Passaris Scolded Over Airport Land

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris on Monday came under heavy criticism from netizens over her suggestion on taking over JKIA buffer zone land.

The legislator was returning from an official tour from South Africa and shared a video of the plane's descent and touchdown at JKIA.

"Excellent landing and service as we returned from SA. I pondered as I captured the approach on the 'idle land' around the capital. President Uhuru and Governor Sonko Lets build 'decanting sites' on unutilised land to deliver the Housing Agenda," Passaris appealed.

She further opined that taking over the land would help the country deliver the Housing Agenda in "an organised and humane manner".

However, netizens bashed her for alleged ignorance given that the land she was suggesting to be used for decanting lies on JKIA's flight path.

"All that idle land you saw is the Nairobi National Park and the airport security buffer zone. What you're suggesting comes from a point of ignorance. There's a lot more usable land for that purpose. Let's not have knee jerk resolutions without research," Charles Lantei scolded Passaris.

"Having another blonde moment, are we Esther? It's the Nairobi National park and the flight path," another tweep stated.

However, Passaris defended her position posing, "If your council home for over 30 years was about to be demolished and you had no temporary home to move into pending re-relocation once upgrade is attained, would you say that?"

Airport buffer zone land is left idle due to the hazards it poses including major noise pollution by planes landing and taking off and possible emergency crashes in the flight approach corridor.

Besides, buildings and smoke in the flight path poses a threat to planes due to obstruction of pilots' view.

Moving people in the land also increases chances of terror attacks as the low-flying aircraft are an easy target.
