Sports CS Rashid Echesa to Reward Amputee Team KSh2.3 Million

Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has vowed to pay Kenya’s Amputee Football team Ksh2.3 Million in allowances.

This came after a video of the team spending a night at the ministry’s boardroom shortly after landing went viral.

The team had proceeded to the ministry with the hope of meeting the cabinet secretary after a world cup championship but failed.

The sports CS however, on Friday, met the team’s members in a closed-door meeting where he promised to settle all their dues the following week.

The team’s financial woes began even before flying to Mexico to participate in the championship.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko however came to their aid and provided them with gaming kits and a part of their allowances.

Sonko, who had promised the team a reward of Ksh2 Million if they carried the title, gave the team Ksh500,000 after they thrashed USA 2-1.

They emerged 12th at the championship that had an attendance of 24 teams worldwide and were position two in Africa.

We have the professional players who we have called for national duty, they have also been promised that they were supposed to go back to Turkey and the Ministry of Sports is going to cater for the ticket,” stated the Treasurer of Kenya Amputee Federation Polycarp Mboya.

The state provided them Ksh7.5 Million air ticket for their Mexico championship at the last minute after numerous pleas were sent.
