Federation of Matatu Operators Call Off Strike

The government has resolved the standoff between itself and matatu operators caused by the ongoing crackdown of public transport vehicles.

The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Karanja Kibicho, held a meeting with the Federation of Public Transport operators on Monday afternoon.

The PS made the announcement on the meeting noting, "I met with leaders of the Federation of Public Transport Operators regarding the ongoing crackdown to improve road safety.”

He assured them that the ministry was focused on streamlining the whole transport sector and not just matatus.

The federation agreed to support the government in its endeavour to make Kenyan roads safe for all users.

A source at the ministry told Kenyans.co.ke that the leader of the federation apologised to commuters for the inconvenience caused by the strike.

He vowed that all the compliant matatus will be back on the roads.

We are glad to have had this meeting. I apologise to our passengers and we will be back on the road,” stated the federation spokesperson Edwin Mukabana.

He added, “We request our people who have complied to return their vehicles to the road. We will bring all issues to the government table for negotiations.”

This will come as a relief to Kenyans who were stranded because of the shortage of public transport.
