Meru Woman Rep Kawira Mwangaza Probed for Attacking Weru TV Journalist

The police are investigating Meru Woman Representative Kawira Mwangaza accused of attacking Boniface Mwongera, a journalist from Weru TV.

She is accused of causing a scene at the Milimani Law Courts when she confiscated his phone because of covering the proceedings of a case involving her.

The Parliamentarian recorded a statement with the police at Capitol Hill Police Station on Monday.

She later proceeded to the Cyber Crime department at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) with the device.

Boniface also recorded his statement over the incident and accused Mwangaza of insulting him.

The police stated that the investigations will determine whether or not to charge the lawmaker.

Kawira was in court for the hearing of a suit she had filed against a musician for defamation.

The MP sprung into the spotlight in 2017 when she gifted a Ksh15 million car to her then-boyfriend Murega Baichu, who is also a musician.

After a few months, Mwangaza and her Meru-based musician husband walked down the isle in what appeared to be an invites only wedding.

Baichu is reported to be the owner of Baite TV, a vernacular TV station.
