KCSE Candidate Dies After Beating in School

A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate has passed on after he engaged in a fight in school on Saturday.

The learner, Benard Mutua, 18, succumbed on Monday evening after he was kicked in the abdomen by another student from the school

According to reports, Mutua developed stomach complications after the altercation and was given painkillers to reduce the pain.

However, the situation worsened. He was, therefore, rushed to Kilome nursing home before being referred to Makindu Sub-county Hospital.

Mutua was a student at Maiani Secondary in Mukaa, Kilome Constituency, Makueni county.

The school reached out to the deceased’s mother, Francisca Munyiva, who was away on errands in Nairobi but was shocked with the manner her son succumbed.

It’s very painful, the school called me on Monday informing me to drive to the school but I was away in Nairobi and at that moment. I contacted my sister who traveled to the facility, but on arrival my son passed on,” stated Munyiva according to The Standard.

At the hospital, the Makindu Sub-county superintendent Kasanga David explained that Mutua was taken to the hospital with a distended abdomen and was vomiting.

That meant that they could not administer drugs to the patient until they carried out surgical operations to stabilise him but the situation worsened until he passed on.

He showed unstable vital signs and he couldn’t be administered with any drugs before surgical operations and at this juncture, the team decided to stabilise his state once again,” he remarked.

The matter is still under police investigations.
